Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist insurance is personal to you. It protects you even when you are nowhere near your insured automobile. It protects you when the person who hurts you has no (or too little) insurance.
     Alaskan law provides that U/UIM coverage covers you even if you are walking, riding a bike or bouncing on a pogo stick. You just have to be hurt by an un/under insured motorist. Furthermore, it may protect your family and other occupants of your insured car.
     Check with a qualified attorney to determine if your claim is covered by Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist insurance. Don't take your own insurace carrier's word for it - they'll have to pay the bill and are looking for any reason to deny coverage.
