Edward A. Merdes (1926-1991) was an Alaskan legal pioneer.

          Married to Norma J. [Wardle] Merdes in 1948, Ed was a Cornell Law School graduate, licensed to practice law in Alaska in 1952. He was a loving husband, devoted father and brilliant Fairbanks trial attorney. Like his sons Mark and Ward, Ed helped broken and injured people. He fought government, insurance companies and large corporations, on behalf of Alaskans.


[Eligibility, Rules and Regulations]

THREE (3) ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS OF $500 EACH

EAM Scholarship Rules & Regulations

- Residency: Alaskan residents only, having received an Alaskan Permanent Fund Dividend in the immediately previous year;

- Scholastic Standing: Students who have successfully completed at least three (3) years [or equivalent] of high school study and are currently enrolled in or have completed the fourth year of high school study in an Alaskan school [or home school] with a GPA of at least 2.0 ["C" average] are eligible to apply. Students currently enrolled with any Alaskan College or University with a GPA of at least 2.0 ["C" average] are also eligible to apply;

- Eligible Colleges: Any University of Alaska campus or recognized Alaska-based Educational Institution. Scholarship winners will have the appropriate check mailed directly to the eligible school of his/her choice;

- Post-Schooling Intent: Intent to live and work in Alaska following completion of college;

- Application Form: Complete and submit to Merdes & Merdes, P.C. the application form. Incomplete, late or incomprehensible applications will not be considered;

- Deadlines: Completed applications must be received by Merdes & Merdes, P.C. 90 days prior to the beginning of the next semester. Semesters may vary. Please contact the Alaskan College or University you plan to attend to ensure timely application submission. Late applications will not be considered;

- Limits: Successful Applicants are limited to one (1) $500 Scholarship per Academic Year;

- Appeal & Review: All Merdes & Merdes, P.C. determinations are final in all respects. There will be no review or appeal of any kind;

- Damage Limitation: Any and all errors and/or omissions by Merdes & Merdes, P.C., singular, repeated and/or successive, in any way related to the EAM Scholarship shall accrue only damages limited to a maximum of $500;

- Termination: Merdes & Merdes, P.C. reserves the right to award all, none or any portion of the scholarships references herein and to terminate this scholarship and all related scholarships at any time, for any reason, and without notice of any kind.
